As many of you know, Batman vs. Superman has had plenty of interesting and dare I say, controversial castings. From Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and most recent Jesse Eisenberg as the villainous Lex Luthor. Though the film is being dubbed a sequel to Man of Steel it seems like there might be are more Justice League characters than many expected. Two other characters rumored in the film are Cyborg and Aquaman. Whether those characters are just going to be cameos or larger parts of the story is unknown. Many feel that the over crowding of characters may lead to distraction of the main plot between Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor.

Writer, David Goyer has been faced with this challenge and claims that Batman vs. Superman will take the character’s respective universes and “explode them.” The writer of the film, who spoke with Collider, explains that it all comes down to honoring the characters:
I always try my best to honor every character. When you’re dealing with big iconic characters, there’s a lot of fan pressure to get it right, and I respect that and admire that passion enormously. At the same time, you can’t let your creative process be too crowded by that or distracted by it. It’s not always one uniform opinion of how you should portray this character or that character. I think I’ve done a pretty good job of walking that razor’s edge. You just have to do your best and know what’s out there, but at the same time, follow your own muse.

Trying to honor so many characters is no easy task. One character can’t out balance the other (or well in this case maybe Superman can since it is a film based on the character).  No matter the case, whether faithful to the characters or not, fans will always find something wrong with it. Let’s just wait and see what other information of the film we get before being truly critical.
Batman vs. Superman will be in theaters May 6th, 2016.
