It’s official!  Filming has finally begun for WB/DC’s highly anticipated Man of Steel follow-up, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  The film is being directed by Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill returning as Clark Kent/Superman and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Batman v Superman will also star Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Ray Fisher as Vic Stone/Cyborg, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.  The film has been written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer.

While preliminary production began on the film last month, Time Magazine reported that principal photography officially began the same day the title was announced.  Production is currently taking place in Detroit, Michigan at the Michigan Motion Picture Studios and is expected to stay in Detroit for the summer before heading out to other areas such as Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific, according to the Warner Bros. press release.

Nothing about the plot has been confirmed, although several rumors have been floating around the internet.  Some of these include Metallo being the main villain and the introduction of kryptonite, a falling out has occurred between Batman and Robin (possibly leading to Nightwing), Bruce forms a UN-type deal to stop Superman from destroying another city, and Metallo “kills” Clark.  It’ll be interesting to see what path they go in this film, as far as the story goes.

One thing that is for sure is that legendary composer, Hans Zimmer, will be returning to score Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and if it’s anything like the score for Man of Steel, it will be absolutely amazing.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on May 6, 2016 with the Justice League film slated for 2018.
