Kevin Smith: “‘Batman v Superman’ to Set Up for “Five or Six” Justice League Films”

Kevin Smith apparently knows the most about the Man of Steel sequel out of anyone in Hollywood who’s not working on the film itself.

Just one week ago, we learned from the filmmaker/comic book store owner that Ben Affleck’s Batsuit ‘black and white’ reveal by Zack Snyder was slightly misleading. Mr. Smith informed us the picture of the suit he had seen was in full color and was very similar to that in the fourth chapter of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ called ‘Hunt the Dark Knight.’

The color of Ben Affleck's suit is, according to Mr. Smith, the same color as seen here.

Today we learn that Smith thinks the title of the sequel, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ may be “a bit of of a mouthful.” Smith also criticized the title saying on his Hollywood Babble-On Podcast:

I don’t know why Batman V. Superman. Why not just throw the “s” in there? Or spell it or something like that. Or honestly, every comic book fan on the planet, who is a DC comic book fan, I think we all wanted to see Batman/Superman: World’s Finest.

Mr. Smith however not only critiqued the film, but also stated the new title does make sense breaking the title off from ‘Man of Steel’ saying  the movie will be the beginning of a five or six movie Justice League Universe and not just a Superman sequel. He had this to say in addition on the podcast:

But look, they’re obviously beginning something, and there’s a stretch of these flicks. And so this is the beginning of the Justice League, as we all suspected as they were announcing that cast. We were like, ‘This is the beginning of a Justice League movie.’ From what I understand now, it’s no longer like, ‘This is Superman 2.’ They’re not doing these things. They’re doing like, ‘Here’s Man of Steel. Here’s Batman/Superman: Dawn of Justice.’ The next one is not like a sequel to one of the characters. They’re just going to keep building their universe for about five or six movies….But all of them…it’s supposed to tell one massive story, which is all Justice League oriented.

This seems as it may be a tad on the obvious side, however there were many who misunderstood why the title did not include ‘Man of Steel’ in it. This also should come as no surprise as the director of the film, Zack Snyder, has also been announced as the director for the Justice League movie slated for a 2017 release at this moment.

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ will star Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in the titular roles respectively as well as Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and will be released May 6, 2016.
