Fans speculated that The Vampire Diaries star Steven R. McQueen would be playing the role of Dick Grayson in his vigilante persona, Nightwing, on the CW’s Arrow. After repeatedly posting to social media and stating in interviews that he was indeed set to play the part, the actor admitted in an interview with The Wrap that it was all wishful thinking on his part.
I’m a comic book fan for sure; I’ve read comic books and always enjoyed them. There’s one character, Nightwing, who’s kind of Robin when he grows up and tries to make his own name and a path for himself. I think it’s a great story that hasn’t really been told. I worked with Greg Berlanti on a show called Everwood and now he’s producing Arrow and jokingly I tweeted him saying, ‘Hey, when are we going to see Nightwing?’ And people started writing about it, there was a couple articles, and I was like, ‘Alright, i’m feeling pretty powerful. Let’s keep putting this energy in the universe and see what happens.’
McQueen said in the interview that although he still hasn’t received a call about any potential role on Arrow, if the opportunity should arise, he wouldn’t necessarily pass it up.
Showrunners on Arrow have not been shy about letting the fans know their love for Nightwing and their desire to have him on the show. Series star Stephen Amell also hinted that some Batman villains would make an appearance on the show. A recent casting call was leaked online, and while some fans believe it to be Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), fans of the boy wonder are keeping their fingers crossed for it to be Nightwing.
