There have been multiple reports from various news sources (including ours) of Jason Momoa portraying the King of Atlantis, Aquaman, in the 2016 film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” despite the lack of an official report from Warner Brothers. The news brings into question as to whether Jason Momoa may be spotted in the Detroit, Michigan area or nearby and if and/or when Warner Brothers announces the casting before Comic Con.
The character has been criticized and ridiculed in popular culture, most notably by Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken, due to his campy portrayal in the Super Friends television show. The superhero, who has found his greatest success in his current self titled comic book run originally penned by Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns and now by Jeff Parker, however has proven to be an A-list hero and an integral part of the Justice League.
Despite this Hollywood Babble-On host Kevin Smith said on his aforementioned podcast that he could be strong and “bada–” in the film:
Well, I think most people of course when they think of f***ing Aquaman, they think of the traditional cartoon version, but the current version or incarnation is he’s a badass king of the seven seas, a warlord to some degree. So I could see where they would get away with casting this dude. Yeah, I’d buy it. Will they blonde his hair, you think? It’s awesome. Think about it dude, they use to make fun of Aquaman all the time. Aquaman, he only talks to f****** fishes. F****** say that to THAT dude’s face.
The King of the Seven Seas being portrayed by Momoa is still just a rumor and until that is confirmed, fans have made fan art making Momoa into Aquaman that you can see below
‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will be released May 6th, 2016 starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and (maybe) Jason Momoa.
