For years, The Lord of Atlantis, Aquaman, has been thought of as a joke. People seem to think he can’t function outside of the water and that all he can do is swim fast and talk to fish.

Well, anyone who has followed Aquaman and knows his history knows that there is much more to the character than that. And Zack Snyder is one of those people.

While driving to the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Detroit set, Snyder was listening to 97.1 The Ticket’s Stoney and Bill radio show when he heard some “disparaging” remarks about the King of the Seven Seas. The hosts were questioning why Aquaman is going to be involved in the upcoming film.

Snyder called the local Detroit radio station on Friday morning to come to the defense of the very underrated superhero. You can listen to the call below:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Ray Fisher as Vic Stone/Cyborg, Jason Momoa (rumored to be the infamous Aquaman), and Holly Hunter in a role made specifically for this film.

The film opens worldwide on March 25, 2016.
