Margot on Harley

One of my dreams will be coming true when the Suicide Squad movie hits the theatres featuring the one and only Harley Quinn. David Ayers’ Suicide Squad film is highly anticipated amongst the DCU community. Can it be done right? Will Ayers be able to portray Task Force X without Hollywood executives pushing for a less dark and adult movie? As of right now my hopes are high. Even with the recent departure of Tom Hardy, I think he will be easily replaceable. Sorry Tom!

The cast is still packed with star power. Alongside Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney , Jared Leto, and Viola Davis are the king of sci-fi, Will Smith and Wolf of Wallstreet’s Margot Robbie. Margot Robbie will be filling the shoes of one of the most respected and beloved villains of all time, Harley Quinn. A DC fan favorite, Harley Quinn is blossoming in the pages of her solo New 52 run of books. MTV News caught up with Margot Robbie during her visit to the Sundance Film Festival while she was there promoting her movie Z for Zachariah. What a perfect time to ask her if she’s ready to get crazy.

“Yeah, I guess it’s intimidating because there’s obviously a lot of people I want to please, and a character I have to do justice,” Robbie said. “But it’s a challenge, I’m definitely up for it, and hopefully I don’t disappoint.”

DC fans know that Harley has been through many transformations over the years. An insane Doctor in love with a mad man. A self-assured woman raising hell in Gotham with her girlfriends. The Jokers loyal number 2 in the Arkham video game series. A member a Task Force X, crazy for revenge and a taste for pain. Each new Harley has warranted a new look and costume. What will the big screen debut for Harleen Quinzel look like? It seems that Margot Robbie isn’t sure either.

“We haven’t gotten too far into it, we’re still pretty far off…” Robbie continued. “I’m actually shooting a movie before that, so my focus is kind of on that at the moment, we haven’t really gotten into the logistics of everything yet.”

In addition to the outfit, Harley’s voice is another iconic piece of her personality. With the high-pitched New York tone Harley Quinn’s voice stands out as one of the most easily recognized in all of comics. Most would agree that the best performance of Harley Quinn is a tie between Arleen Sorkin and Tara Strong. Margot Robbie should have no problem with this New York-ish accent. Based on her work in Wolf of Wallstreet shes is pretty much perfect for the role.

“None of those things have been set in stone at this point, but according to the comics, she’s from New York and I think Brooklyn, so there may be a slight… I couldn’t imagine it would be as strong as the Wolf of Wall Street accent,” she said. “The lingo will be the difference between that and the other character I played in ‘Wolf’ but I don’t know yet. We haven’t spoken about it.”

Hopefully sooner than later we’ll get to hear from a few of the other stars and their thoughts on the upcoming picture. With all the amazing fan art out there I’m very excited to see the look of the squad in the months to come.
