Recently, DC Comics News conducted an exclusive interview with Arrow’s John Barrowman when he was in Australia for the Oz Comic Con. Now DCN has learned, by way of TV Line, that Barrowman has reached a deal that will have his character appear in all The CW shows featuring DC Comics characters. Wentworth Miller, who portrayed Captain Cold on The Flash and later DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, reached a similar agreement which will bring Leonard Snart across all CW/DC series as well.

“What it really emulates to us is the comic books themselves, where there really are a cast of characters,” said EP Greg Berlanti when the announcement of Miller’s deal was made. “In success, we hope to continue with other characters finding their way across all the shows.”

Barrowman’s Malcom Merlyn started a recurring character in the first two seasons of Arrow. In the comics, Merlyn didn’t have much of a backstory, other than serving on Green Arrow’s Rogues Gallery. But thanks to the writing on Arrow, and Barrowman’s embracing of the character, Malcolm Merlyn quickly became a fan favorite. He was promoted to a series regular in Season 3. Barrowman also appeared on The Flash, which laid the groundwork for Legends.

He has taken to the character so much, Barrowman and his sister, novelist Carole E. Barrowman, penned a comic book series focusing on Malcolm Merlyn’s origins called Arrow: The Dark Archer.
