Hi’ya Puddin’! WB has officially announced the next DC animated film Batman and Harley Quinn. What’s even MORE exciting is Kevin Conroy is back to voice Batman and Executive Producer Bruce Timm is taking on his classic BTAS style. Loren Lester is voicing Nightwing and Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch is voicing Harley Quinn. Melissa is known for playing the character Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, the wife of main character Howard.  I for one am more excited than the time Harley was released from Arkham as sane in the old animated series episode Harley’s Holiday.
Rauch had this to say about the opportunity:
I love that Harley is a badass and, beyond that, that she uses her humor as another weapon in her arsenal. She knows just how to diffuse a situation with her humor, and how to incite a situation with her sarcasm. It’s a dream role. I knew Harley had a higher pitched tone, and a bit of a New York accent — and I come from a New Jersey family where everyone could be former gun molls. So I wanted to give a nod to my background without being as shrill. In all honesty, I used to speak exactly like that — my acting school professors really worked the accent out of me. So it was fun to find those tones and accent again.
The story focuses around Batman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn teaming up to stop a global catastrophe at the hands of Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue, aka the Plant-Master. There is no release date yet for the film but it will be coming this summer on DVD/Blu-Ray.
What do you think about the casting decision? Is Melissa the right choice or should we have given a nod to Arleen Sorkin and Tara Strong? Let us know in the comments below!
Have a happy!
