That’s right, we are going to see a sequel to Suicide Squad. Actor Joel Kinnaman who played Rick Flag in the first film has given a status update as to if there is going to be a second film. The answer is yes, and in 2018 it will start rolling cameras to get things going.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kinnaman said this about the status about the film:

As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.

Now if you are wondering if David Ayer is going to be the director on this sequel, the official answer is no. Because he is working on directing DC’s Gotham City Sirens and has started to look at directing a Scarface reboot. That being said, Kinnaman has expressed that he would like to see Ayer return to the Suicide Squad series but ultimately is up for seeing the squad take on a more “grounded story” with more interactions with normal people.

Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.

What do you think? Is Suicide Squad 2 going to beat the critics again and prove them wrong? Who would you like to see them go up against? Sound off in the comments.
