As a part of the Preview Night screenings in SDCC 2017 at San Diego in Ballroom 20, Warner Bros. Television on Wednesday evening offered a first glimpse on the upcoming Superman legacy prequel, Krypton which will premiere on Syfy channel in 2018.

The trailer starts with majestic and interplanetary imagery of Krypton and a narration from Kal-El’s grandfather, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe).

Kal-El, future grandson. I know you will fight to save your world, just as I fought to save mine,” he says as a clip plays, featuring other cast members including Ann Ogbomo’s Alura Zod, Georgina Campbell’s Lyta Zod, and Ian McElhinney’s Val-El, Seg’s grandfather who reminds him to not forget the name of the family. The trailer also features some golden faces which implies that we would be seeing strange and interesting creatures in the pre-destruction era of Krypton.

The trailer also features some ties to Man of Steel and the DC Extended Universe, including the “S” insignia, which stands for hope. There’s also a nod to previous take on the franchise, as some bars of John Williams’ classic Superman theme song can be heard near the end. These garnered some positive response and applause from the audience.

Although, the sizzle reel of Black Lightning was impressive, a lot of fans were hyped and astonished for this upcoming series. It provides fans a cinematic feel like what we saw in Man of Steel. With it’s amazing cast including Cameron Cuffe as Kal-El’s ancestor Seg-El, we are expecting an awesome performance.

Unfortunately, Warner Bros. and Syfy haven’t yet released a official trailer for the show, but we are hopeful that that may change after the panel this Saturday July 22.

Check out the synopsis of Krypton below:

Syfy’s Krypton, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, will follow Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

Krypton will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer/showrunner; Colm McCarthy (She Who Brings Gifts, Peaky Blinders) is set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. The pilot teleplay and story is written by David S. Goyer & Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Krypton will be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics.
