The wait is finally over. After weeks of rumor and speculation, and thousands of audition tapes reviewed, Zachary Levi was announced recently as the title character in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!, with Asher Angel as his human alter-ego, Billy Batson. And at the recent Justice League premiere in Los Angeles, fans got to see both halves of the classic superhero side by side.
In related news, it had been announced that classic Shazam counterpart, Black Adam, to be played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, will allegedly debut in Suicide Squad 2 and with his own solo project to follow. Instead, The Big Red Cheese will square off with his other arch-nemesis, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, who is in talks to be played by Mark Strong. Strong has already been involved in DC Comics films before, having played Sinestro in the 2011 much-maligned Green Lantern. Actress Grace Fulton will also be involved in the project playing Billy’s young friend.
Shazam! is scheduled to premiere April 5, 2019.
