The CW’s family of superhero tv shows, known commonly as the Arrowverse, is on a short holiday break at the moment but fans need not worry since they will be starting once again in mid-January. Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow will be coming back with new episodes continuing story arcs left open in mid-season finales.
Recently, the CW release quick synopsis of the upcoming new episodes
First up is Supergirl, which will premiere Monday, January 15,2018. Coming off her major battle with Reign, Kara Danvers will be enlisting the help of the Legion of Superheroes in the upcoming shows mid-season premiere. One thing to note about Supergirl is that it will be allowing DC’s Legends of Tomorrow to occupy their Monday slot for a few weeks starting February 12 and then will return April 9th. Here’s the CW’s synopsis for the first episode back:
SUPERGIRL: “Legion of Superheroes” (Monday, Jan. 15 at 8pm) Struggling to heal from her injuries inflicted by Reign, Supergirl remains in a dreamlike state, unable to be reached. Mon-El recruits one of the Legion members, Brainiac-5 (Defiance‘s Jesse Rath), to try to bring her back. Meanwhile, Reign continues her rampage on the city so the DEO teams up with the Legion of Superheroes to try to stop her.
Next up we have The Flash returning on Tuesdays. With Barry Allen standing trial for murder due to the evil machinations of The Thinker, the rest of the Flash team will have to figure out how far they are willing to go to save Barry. Here’s that shows quick synopsis:
THE FLASH: “The Trial of The Flash” (Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 pm)As Barry’s trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins, Iris and Joe must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison.
Last but not least, Arrow returns to the CW on Thursday night with the Green Arrow dealing with the losses on his team as well as Oliver Queen dealing with precarious dilemmas for his public persona. Arrow will also have to deal with the threat of Cayden James and Black Siren. Here’s that show’s synopsis:
ARROW: “Divided” (Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9pm)Despite losing half his team, Oliver remains confident that he, Felicity and Diggle can stop Cayden James and Black Siren However, when he discovers one of Cayden’s secrets, he decides to team up with an unlikely ally. Meanwhile, Dinah spends time with Vince.
The big think to keep in mind through all of this is the switch between Supergirl and Legends for a short period of time and how that will affect both shows. There is also the premiere of the brand new show Black Lightning that will be expanding the Arrowverse even further.
There are many big changes to the Arrowverse come 2018 but whether or not they will prove successful will have to be looked at once the seasons for all the shows resume.
