Summary

Bane and his crew set out on a global hunt for a newborn baby. The happy event is the birth of the new spiritual leader of Kobra—and whoever gets to the baby first holds the power of the world’s largest criminal empire. The man who broke the Bat turns surrogate daddy to the world’s most wanted infant! The mayhem continues as this gangster epic explodes in Blüdhaven!

Positives

This was another great chapter in this fantastic maxiseries.  We got more Bane in action, less Dionysus than previous issues, and more interaction between Bane and his crew, which is always great.

Graham Nolan’s artwork is superb, as usual.  His distinct line work and attention to detail is one of the things that makes him one of my favorite comic book artists, especially when working together with Gregory Wright, whose colors are truly vibrant and pop off the page.

And I can’t forget about Chuck Dixon.  His dialogue and storytelling ability is beyond good.  Never once was I bored with the story.  Never did I dislike any of the dialogue.  He is so deft at creating a tone and flow that keeps the reader hooked for the entirety of the story.

Negatives

There were only a couple negatives in this issue that I found worth mentioning.  The first was the sudden, almost slapstick-style death of the Naja Naja.  I mean, really?  He slipped and fell off of a ladder and broke his neck?  When I read that, I was taken aback.  I was like “did that really just happen?”, and sure enough, it did.

The other negative is a really minor one, but what are the odds that the new Naja Naja would be born in Blüdhaven?  Just a bit coincidental if you ask me.

Verdict

Overall, even with the couple of flaws, this was a fantastic issue.  I can’t wait to see where this story goes.
