While out making rounds promoting his new movie, Rampage, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked about his upcoming DC Comics film, Black Adam.
From the sounds of it, Johnson believes production could begin soon.
Dwayne Johnson:
The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie — in production.
He continued to comment on how great Marvel is doing with their universe-building and that DC is doing well too but are still finding their footing and tone.
With a 2019 production schedule, the film could potentially be either a 2020 or 2021 film. Rumor has it that he will be seen first in the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. An introduction to the character in Suicide Squad makes sense and could easily lead into his solo film.
Dwayne Johnson is known to be a franchise-saver. He has rejuvenated interest in multiple franchises from Fast and Furious to GI Joe, to Journey to the Center of the Earth and most recently Jumanji. With any luck, he will help solidify DC as a bankable superhero franchise.
