It has been officially confirmed that LEGO DC Super-Villains is in the works with the release of a new trailer, as seen above.

Fans had been predicting that a new LEGO DC game was on its way, as the last game based in the DC Universe, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, was released four years ago. Super-Villains will be the company’s fourth DC game. The first was 2008’s LEGO Batman: The Video Game, which became a major success by selling over 11 million copies. Two sequels followed. The second game, DC Super Heroes, reached beyond the world of Gotham City to include the Justice League and other popular heroes. The final game in the trilogy doubled down on that formula.

Our first official look at LEGO DC Super-Villains dives into the story for the new game. Set to the backdrop of Blondie’s “One Way or Another,” fans watch as the Joker leads the takeover of Gotham City. Citizens run in panic as Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and the Reverse Flash wreak havoc across the city. Tom Stone, Managing Director of TT Games, says LEGO DC Super-Villains will be the “funniest LEGO game to date.

Players create their own fully customizable super villain who can interact with other DC villains over the course of the story. This is the first time a LEGO game has made a custom character the main protagonist of the story. As with other LEGO games, two-player co-op during story mode will be available.

The new game takes place in a world where the Justice League has disappeared, leaving a group of superheroes from a parallel universe to take it upon themselves to protect the planet from evil as the “Justice Syndicate.” DC’s most famous supervillain team, the Legion of Doom, discovers that the Justice Syndicate aren’t who they appear to be. It will be up to the Legion of Doom to put a stop to the Justice Syndicate’s evil plans.

LEGO DC Super-Villains launches October 16, 2018 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
