Whether it be dramas, comedies, or superhero shows, sex scenes are often a part of acting, and Caity Lotz from Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, shared a sentiment we should all get behind: Let’s stop making it awkward. Lotz has had to film more than her fair share of sex scenes since she joined the Arrowverse back in Arrow Season 2, and it hasn’t gotten easier since she first appeared in lingerie in a scene with Stephen Amell years ago.
Lotz shared some thoughts on a recent sex scene that took place during Crisis on Earth X this past year, saying,
“They always shut down sets anytime there’s like a sex scene, or like when Chyler Leigh and I had our one-night stand on the crossover, and we were naked in bed. They cleared out the entire set, and everyone makes a huge deal out if it. They’re like ‘Are you comfortable? We’ll clear everybody out. If there’s ever anything that feels uncomfortable, just yell stop, and we’ll stop.’ And I’m like ‘Can you just calm down? Everyone just take a break. Just be normal.’ That’s always nerve-wracking.”
This is nothing new, as many actors have stories to share about their experiences filming sex scenes, from hilarious to embarassing. Lotz’s character Sara Lance has always been a sexual character, and it doesn’t seem like these scenes are getting any easier. Hopefully those working on sets where sex scenes are filmed can stop more awkward than it needs to be by making it such a big deal.
It appears as though the best way to get the actors and actresses comfortable may be to treat sex scenes like any other scenes, instead of blowing it out of proportion.
It seems like filming sex scenes has gotten a little bit easier since Arrow season 2, which turned out to be a little more difficult than most. Here is what Caity had to say about that scene:
“Any time there’s any kind of sex scene, it’s always kind of nerve-wracking. And when you have to be in lingerie or anything like that. When I first got cast on Arrow — which, if you’re Arrow fans, you probably already know that there was another Sara Lance in the very first pilot episode — and then when we reshot that, with me getting sucked out of the Gambit, I had to be in lingerie. And it was literally the same lingerie that the other girl wore. And they’re like, ‘Here, it has to be this.’ And I’m like, ‘It doesn’t fit me. My boobs are too small.’ And they’re like, ‘We’ll just fill it. It has to be the same one.'”
Its very unfortunate that Caity had to encounter a poorly handled situation like that, but that has not stopped her from taking the superhero world by storm. Caity’s character has taken no prisoners since season 2 of Arrow, and hopefully Caity won’t either when it comes to this matter.
Romance is only getting trickier for Sara Lance, who is currently dating Ava Sharpe played by Jes Macallan, who was recently given the role of series regular. The Legends are getting a new member, however, in the form of Constantine, played by Matt Ryan, who hooked up with Sara in season 3.
Season 4 of Legends of Tomorrow premieres Monday, October 22 at 9:00 P.M. ET on the CW.
