DC has announced that Geoff Johns, known for his work on Green Lantern, Aquaman, Flash and more, is returning to write a brand new volume of Shazam! comics.

Johns announced the news during his spotlight panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. He is set to write the series while Dale Eaglesham is set to illustrate. The series is planned to release in monthly installments starting this November.

Johns previously worked on Shazam! as part of the New 52 DC relaunch, and although he intended to make this new Shazam! series with Gary Frank, who he worked on the New 52 Shazam! with, Frank is reportedly busy working on Doomsday Clock.

This new series of Shazam! is set to bring back the Shazam Family, which was previously used during the New 52 relaunch. This family is led by Billy Batson (Shazam!) a young boy who turns into a fully-grown superhero when he says the word “Shazam!”

He shares his powers with other members of his foster family, including Mary Bromfield (Mary Marvel) and Freddie Freeman (Captain Marvel, Jr.). This time around, the family is reportedly focused on “discovering the origins of magic.”
