Ever since his casting as Bruce Wayne/Batman, the rumors surrounding Ben Affleck’s future have been running rampant. Â Will he stay? Will he go? Will he be replaced? Is he in for the long run as Batman? The carousel of rumors haven’t stopped especially with the critical “flop” of Justice League. Â Affleck himself hasn’t done the rumor mill any favors as he has stayed as mysterious as the character he portrays when it comes to the role.
Recently, the news that Affleck’s script was scrapped for The Batman emerged followed by the news that new director and writer Matt Reeves decided to go with a “younger” actor, 15-20 years younger than Affleck, for the role of the caped crusader in hopes of creating a trilogy inside the DCEU.
Now, the latest surrounding The Batman and Ben Affleck has emerged and word is that Affleck is still attached to the project, but this time as a producer, which is targeting spring 2019 for production. Â No cast information has been released, including whether or not a cameo by Ben Affleck as his “gritty” DCEU Bruce Wayne will happen, as this film is rumored to be a rewind of sorts showing Bruce as a younger Batman during all of the trials he went through as he grew into his cowl to become the Batman that is portrayed by Affleck in the current day.
Matt Reeves has said his script for The Batman would be done soon, so the writer/director knows what direction this story will go in, and despite not deciding on his main actor, Reeves did confirm that Affleck is “involved” with the picture as producer. Â Ben Affleck still being involved with The Batman is absolutely good news for his future in the DCEU and for DC Films as a whole.
