It turns out that Alec Baldwin was not Warner Bros. first choice for Thomas Wayne. Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen turned down the role of Bruce Wayne’s father which caused the studio to go for Baldwin. Jeff Sneider revealed on Twitter that Mortensen passed on the role, but gave no reason as to why.

Judging by the comments made from the Twitterverse, many are upset they won’t get to see Mortensen play the role. So far, the only thing in common between Baldwin and Mortensen is they are close in age. Otherwise, they are very different actors and different looks. This gives people the impression Phillips is going for a middle-aged Thomas Wayne which marks it around the time they were gunned down in Crime Alley. It has already been said this film is not linked to the DCEU. But it may be linked to Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Early reports claim that Thomas will have a very large role in the film. One specific rumor claims that Thomas has an illegitimate child with a helper of the house, and that child becomes the Joker. This establishes a much deeper connection between The Caped Crusader and the Clown Prince of Crime. Even if the rumor is true, it will prove to be highly controversial on DC’s part.
