A sequel to Aquaman is officially happening — but it’s going to be a long wait.

Warner Bros. announced that a follow-up to the hit superhero film starring Jason Momoa will be released on Dec. 16, 2022, locking down a similar date to the first film.

The news follows Aquaman racking up 1.1 billon at the global box office since its December release making it the highest-grossing DCEU film. Domestically, Aquaman has made $335 million, making it the second highest-grossing DCEU title in the United States behind 2017’s Wonder Woman.

In addition to the official Aquaman sequel, a spin-off horror movie about The Trench kingdom is also in development. The Trench is expected to have a new director and cast.
