Taika Waititi Joining ‘The Suicide Squad’

…and you thought the cast couldn’t get any bigger or better than it already is.

While on a tour promoting his Fox Searchlight comedy, Jojo Rabbit, and beginning work on his next film for the label, Next Goal Wins, actor/comedian and director Taika Waititi spilled that he is also in talks to join James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

While there is no word on what the part is or how big the part will be it is expected to be announced soon that Waititi will join the film.

Waititi is no stranger to the world of superheroes as he helmed Thor: Ragnarok and will take-up director duties on Thor: Love and Thunder for Marvel Studios.  Waititi also appeared in The Green Lantern (2011), Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame (Korg, voice), The Mandalorian (IG_11).  Waititi also directed What We Do In The Shadows (2014), Boy (2010) and episodes 1 and 8 of The Mandalorian.

Talk out of Warner Bros is The Suicide Squad will have a table reading on September 11th with production starting September 23rd for an August 6, 2021 theater release.

Waititi would join a cast that includes a returning Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) along with new cast members David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Steve Agee (King Shark), Nathan Fallon, Idris Elba and Flula Borg.

The Suicide Squad is written and directed by James Gunn with Chuck Roven and Peter Safran as producers.
