Green Lantern’s Light: ‘Green Lantern Corps’ Movie Update
The Green Lantern mythology and characters are one of the cornerstones of the DC Multiverse. Since the launch of the DCEU, talk amongst fans has been a new movie featuring the Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps yet very little has come out of Warner Bros about an upcoming feature film.
Recently, a report has come out that Warner Bros added the Green Lantern Corps to its upcoming film slate and has stated the film is a major priority.
In 2018, the “Father of the Green Lantern Corps”, Geoff Johns took over the writing of the Green Lantern Corps script but no news has come out since; until now.
Variety has reported that Geoff Johns is not only still hard at work on the script but is prepared to submit the script to Warner Bros by the end of the year. Johns has been very vocal about his desire to take his time with the script and is fully committed to getting the story right.
Enter Greg Berlanti…
Greg Berlanti is the mind behind the Arrowverse on the CW and is currently working with Johns on the upcoming Green Lantern series for HBO Max so it is only natural that Berlanti might join the production of the Green Lantern Corps movie at some stage.
Then we have J.J. Abrams…
Another rumor surrounding the Green Lantern Corps movie is the potential involvement of J.J. Abrams and his company Bad Robot. Rumors out of WB is that the project will be shopped to Bad Robot in hopes that the company will join the production of the film.
In an interview with comicbook.com, Geoff Johns spoke about his work on the Green Lantern Corps script:
“The truth is I really want to write a great script and get the script right and then we’ll talk more about it once we get really gong. Because we talk about development all the time and people like, development gets out there and leaks and this is really something again like Stargirl is very personal to me. I want to make sure I write the best script I can possibly write, so I need to get away in a cave and write that script I can possibly write, so I need to go away in a cave and write that script and finish it and then come out and go ‘okay’ and work with the guys and really make sure we’ve got the best story to tell and the best way into this character. I think we have a lot of things in it that…people know my run from Green Lantern and so they shouldn’t be too surprised by seeing what we bring into it.”
DC fans everywhere should be very excited about this news and very excited that Johns and the WB aren’t rushing out a product that will be anything less than what the Green Lantern and DC fans deserve.
