Superman & Lois Casts Actor Dylan Walsh As General Sam Lane
Newsarama reports that Dylan Walsh, a veteran actor of over 20 years and almost 70 screen credits, has won the role of the CW’s new Superman & Lois spinoff tv series. The show is a spinoff of Supergirl.
Samuel “Sam” Lane is the father of both Lois and Lucy Lane. A decorated officer of the Army, Lane made his first appearance in November 1959 in the Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane series’ thirteenth issue. Initially created as a horse farmer, the General’s origin was retconned as a hard-nosed Army general following the events of the iconic Crisis On Infinite Earths story line of the 1980s.
The character has made many appearances and has been played and voiced by many actors, including notable actor Michael Ironside for the CW’s Smallville series that focused on a teenage Clark Kent. The character has also appeared in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, played by both Denis Arndt & Harve Presnell.
He was most recently portrayed by actor Glenn Morshower on the CW’s Supergirl.
Walsh has a long acting history dating back to the mid-80s. His most famous roles were in the movie Congo, a 90s adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel of the same name, Nip/Tuck, a serial medical drama from the early 2000s, and as the Stepfather in the remake of the cult horror movie The Stepfather. He is currently a cast member on Blue Bloods, a police drama that also stars Tom Selleck.
The Superman & Lois series is executive produced by Todd Helbing, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecther and Geoff Johns. The show’s pilot was to begin production when it was forced to postponement due to the Coronavirus. Due to the delay, the series will jump into production as soon as it is safe for everyone to return to work after the pandemic.
