Summary

Jonathan and Jordan return to Metropolis High with their new football team Smallville. Jordan encounters his old bullies. Meanwhile, Lois and Clark make startling discoveries about Lex Luthor–and it’s worse than anyone could’ve thought.

The Positives

Superman & Lois 1×06 starts off with Jordan dealing with an old schoolmate named Tag. Tag received superhuman speed thanks to an unknown version of kryptonite underneath Smallville. Beating Jordan without restraint, its Superman who comes to Jordan’s rescue and pursues Tag unsuccessfully. Jordan’s powers are coming into their own at an unknown rate, and this episode shows us how dangerous that can be. Now apart of the football team and about to play against Metropolis High, Jordan is all to eager to go against his old bullies. Clark is hesitant at first to let him play–and with good reason. However thanks to some convincing by Johnathan he agrees reluctantly. Elsewhere Lois is still working closely with Lex Luthor to find out exactly what is going on in the mines beneath Smallville. Once the truth is revealed, it sends Lois on a mission to warn Lana and Kyle, who work closely with Morgan Edge. Only Lana listens, but she’s now decided to work on the inside with Edge to assist Lois. I really think Lana will be put in danger because of this at some point–and it may lead to something Lois may regret.

The Negatives

I have no complaints about this episode, but I do want to make a point to take notice of someone who has sacrificed too much for his family with little in return–Jonathan Kent. Jonathan went from all star quarterback at Metropolis High, to almost nobody in Smallville. And thanks to the actions of Jordan against his bullies of Metropolis, Jonathan’s arm now lies in a sling. Angry and bitter at Jordan for a period of time, I completely understood Jonathan’s point of view. Hopefully something good will come from all of his sacrifices he’s made–he definitely deserves a win at some point this season.

The Verdict

Superman & Lois 1×06 was a great episode and I’m looking forward to the next one. The big reveal about Lex Luthor and his real intentions on prime Earth were interesting. I was sure about one particular angle, but the writers really threw a curveball at me and I loved it! This episode had plenty of action, and a great story as well.
