Y: The Last Man has been in the works as both a film and a TV series for years, with many stumbles along the way, so it’s refreshing to finally see some real traction on this project as the premiere date looms closer.

Back in early 2020, the show’s lead actor at the time, Barry Keoghan, dropped out of the role and was replaced by Ben Schnetzer a month later. The series will also star Diane Lane as Senator Jennifer Brown, Imogen Poots as Hero Brown, Latasha Lynch as Agent 355, Juliana Canfield as Beth, Marin Ireland as Nora, Amber Tamblyn as Mariette Callows, and Timothy Hutton as the U.S. President.

This series is based on the long-running Vertigo series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, which debuted back in 2002 and ran until 2008, producing sixty issues total. This will provide for a plethora of storytelling options as the series goes on, assuming it makes it past its first season.

Official synopsis:

Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one man and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.

Eliza Clark will serve as showrunner and will write at least the first two episodes, with Louise Friedberg directing.

Y: The Last Man will premiere exclusively on Hulu on September 13.
