Sharon Stone and Raoul Max Trujillo are set to enter the DC Universe in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie.
Stone – best known for iconic roles in Basic Instinct, Casino, and The Quick And The Dead – is in talks with producers of the project. She is interested in portraying Victoria Kord, a character created for the film. Sources suggest this may be a gender swap from Jarvis Kord, the uncle of Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle. However, the Beetle of real interest in this project is Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena), the current Beetle.
Sharon Stone and Raoul Max Trajillo – Twice the Odds For Fledgling Hero Reyes
The only confirmed casting of the two is Trajillo, already confirmed to appear in the film as Carapax The Indestructible Man, a foe of the Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beetle. Trajillo is best known for such projects as Riddick, The New World, and Apocalypto. His character’s full name in the comic is Conrad Carapax, and he was initially Garrett’s business rival. A journey to Pago Island – the location of Jarvis Kord’s base of operations – leads to his mind being transferred into one of Kord’s robots stationed there when he touches the wrong wire.
This will not be the first time Sharon dipped her toes in a DC project. In 2004, she played the hard-skinned Laurel Hadare, arch-nemesis of Halle Berry’s Patience Prince in the Razzie-winning Catwoman.
Although focusing on Reyes’s story, there is no confirmation that the Blue Beetle legacy will be acknowledged. Originally owned by Fox Feature Syndicate and Holyoke Publishing, DC Comics purchased the property in the mid-1980s. Created by Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski, Garrett was an archaeologist who discovered The Scarab on a dig and accessed a tenth of its then-perceived mystical abilities. His student and successor, Kord, couldn’t access The Scarab like Dan could, so instead relied upon advanced technology inspired by it. Ted would go on to become a member of the Justice League of America and struck up a close friendship with the time-travelling Booster Gold. However, when Ted was killed by Maxwell Lord on the eve of Infinite Crisis, the scarab found its way to an ordinary teenager named Jaime Reyes. Unlike his predecessors, the scarab – revealed to be a member of a symbiotic conquering race known as The Reach – bonded with Jaime and encased him in sentient armor with morphing abilities.
Blue Beetle is scheduled to hit theaters August 18, 2023.
