Surprise, surprise! Not all the heroes of the Justice League are dead after all. In this week’s JLA #8 by Matt Kindt and Doug Mahnke, readers find out that Stargirl and Martian Manhunter have escaped the clutches of the Crime Syndicate, despite being in ” a jail that warps itself to be the perfect prison for each inmate.” Now, the unlikely duo will travel across the unfamiliar, evil landscapes in an attempt to save their missing comrades.
Kindt’s first issue as the writer of JLA will supposedly be a “mind-bending” one as Stargirl and Martian Manhunter uncover saddening secrets and cross paths with a deadly villain that is making its first New 52 appearance. If they are able to overcome the first issue’s challenges, the team will still have a long way to go before they can save the Justice League and defeat the Syndicate.
Many readers will find the pairing of Stargirl and Manhunter odd, but that is exactly what the writer was hoping for. Here’s what the writer had to say on the matter:
“I purposely paired Manhunter and Stargirl together because they’re so different. Their backgrounds and way of life and their demeanor and outlook on life in general make them polar opposites in a lot of ways. So getting them on the same page and watching them work toward a mostly common goal has been really fun to write,” Kindt said.
The new issue hits shelves tomorrow and features art by the talented team of Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy. Check out the preview and covers below!
