The Year Is 2367
We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #3 came to us this week and I will be quite honest when I say this is one of the quickest catch-up’s I have done as a reviewer. After a quick devour of issue #1 it took 20 minutes to get up to current. We Only Find Them When They’re Dead is a series that is certainly not to be missed but to explain to you why, let’s dive into the review. Let’s see what the crew of the Vihaan II is up to in their warp speed game of chicken with Officer Paula Richter.
My Arms Are Strong
An autopsy ship, crew of four. Captain Malik and his crew of the Vihaan II have made their jump into warp speed trying to see if the Gods that they only seem to find when they are salvaging their bodies…ever have the light in their eyes of life. Life has not been kind to any in the world of the We Only Find Them When They’re Dead series it seems, but Officer Richter and Malik have that invisible red thread that has woven their history and paths together.
Each of the crew aboard the Vihaan II have their lives in the balance just from pulling away from the corpse salvage of the most recent God in search of one living. Surrounded by death every day, they long for one among the living. To see restored what has been lost when the Gods find their way to the salvagers. But even with Captain Malik desperately pleading for Paula Richter to drop off and not risk her life over hatred… the past is not so easily forgotten for either of them.
My Reach Is Long
We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #3 gives readers several peeks in this issue. One of which is seeing some of Officer Richter’s history. this adds to the depth of the tale that is there between her and Captain Malik. This is the first written review I have gotten to do for this series but have a few things to say for it on the whole. The entire atmosphere takes me back to the good feelings of Firefly. The comparison is for the feel of the crew members and their interactions as salvagers. The artwork is not only beautiful but it puts you in a state of awe when looking at the details. The more you look the more admiration you have.Â
The writing for the series is seamless in the flow. Like mentioned above it is reminiscent of Firefly, one of the personal favorite scenes in this issue involves a maneuver that reminds me of the “Crazy Ivan” scene. That being said, We Only Find Them When They’re Dead is an entity of its own and it will ensnare you. The team of Al Ewing, Simone Di Meo, Mariasara Miotti, and AndWorld Design have made their magic strong and woven this story to perfection.Â
Verdict
We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #3 and the series itself caught me complete surprise. It was the joy of finding something I didn’t know I was looking for until it found me. Now I am caught and cannot wait to see what is going to happen next. In a world where gigantic Gods float waiting to have sections of them claimed by autopsy ships. Where nothing seems to be what it looks like. Anything could happen next. I look forward to learning more about not only Captain Malik and his crew, Officer Richter, but also what these Gods are… 5 out of 5 with wishes of more than 100 percent for the glass stained window artwork alone. Pick any aspect of the series and you are already a winner.Â
