Radiant Black #4 is certainly not lying, “Everything Changes” and since it hits differently, I will be switching it up a bit with my review. Nathan had a break through in the story he wanted to write after using Radiant Black to help him break through his writer’s block. We saw though that Nathan was happy only for a moment before sadness claimed him.Â
The Feeling Of Being Stuck
As we move into Radiant Black #4, the communication barrier has been broken and a conversation has begun between Nathan and the entity known as Radiant. Radiant gets straight to the point saying a war is coming and will Nathan use his power to do what must be done in order for him as well as his species to survive?Â
Nathan has taken an active interest in learning how to use these new powers and recruits Marshall to assist him. But even Marshall is questioning his motives, and accuses him of being stagnant and unmotivated. That Nathan has no clear path and to be fair this is something we have seen through out the issues so far. It forces Nathan to analyze just WHAT has he done since attaining these powers?
But with Radiant Red interrupting and chaos ensuing…something massive happens…something that no one saw coming.Â
Positives
Holy Sh**. Radiant Black #4 came out of no where and even with prep work and being told everything was changing, there was no way to know just HOW much. This is probably the first time that an issue has left me adrift in my feelings, this and Stray Dogs #4…what is it about issue four?Â
Kyle Higgins packs a gut punch that has such an incredible lead up and frankly Becca Carey and Marcelo Costa help deliver it visually with perfection. This series promised to be different and personal and it hits on every point promised and beyond.Â
NegativesÂ
Having to wait!!!!Â
Verdict
If you are sleeping on this series, I honestly feel like you are sleeping on a milestone in comics history. Radiant Black is changing and rearranging the game of the story. Highly recommended as a read. Don’t miss out on such a brilliant show of story and art meshing beautifully.Â
