When last we left off in the world of Ice Cream Man, we were treated to a bit of “Strange Neapolitan“. This go round for Ice Cream Man #7 we are treated to a tale called “My Little Poltergeist“. Grab your tissues and prepare cause this one is a head rush.

Every Story Is A Ghost Story

Lisa is going through something that no young one should. Having recently lost her friend Kayla to cancer, her family just wants to help her through the grieving process. Doing their best at least. The thing is… Lisa is STILL talking to Kayla as though she is right beside her. Like nothing has changed and all is normal.

An adventure in the woods following a trial of sprinkles leads poor Lisa to a shack. One full of unsightly horrors but the greatest of which is our Ice Cream Man. In a form we have not seen yet he looks on Lisa and things look quite dire…until Caleb arrives, but whose side is he on exactly?

Positives

First and foremost let me say it was a chuckle seeing that Kayla died on my birthday. Also the writing and the art is spectacular for Ice Cream Man #7. The scenes which show Lisa’s art are my favorite. They are so wholesome amidst the wicked imagery and sinister settings. If there is one thing that I have learned reading this series, it is that the Ice Cream Man series is a master class of short stories and mood setting.

Negatives

The only thing would be that there is such a slow burn for the main story but to be honest for an ongoing series that is how I would want my stories to go.  And the mystery of Caleb and Ice Cream Man is worth every second of build up.

Conclusion

Ice Cream Man dives into the psyche and nestles there deeply. It is a warm and sinister feeling when enjoying the series and watching all the wicked unfold. Full of twists and turns and never fully knowing just what is next is something that makes this series unique and a delight. It gets a full recommendation from me on every level possible to give one.
