Review: Superman & Lois 1×13 – “Fail Safe”

Summary
Superman confronts an imprisoned Morgan Edge. Meanwhile the residents of Smallville attempt to piece their lives back together.
Positives
Superman & Lois 1×13 brings us to the conclusion of the battle between Superman and Morgan Edge. Now imprisoned by General Lane and the military, the Kryptonian is in a cell surrounded by kryptonite and powerless. Superman visits Edge to find out exactly what happened with the Eradicator weapon. In the very last moments of the previous episode, Edge super-heated the device until it exploded. His intentions for doing so are still unknown, but Superman has a strange feeling–hence the visit. Superman gets no useful information from his questioning of Edge, however towards the end of the episode Edge escapes and flies towards the sun in doing so. Seemingly supercharging himself, voices can be heard circulating in the crazed Kryptonian’s head.
Negatives
This episode gave me nothing to complain about as we see the fallout of Superman and Edge’s actions on the town of Smallville. Literally everyone is trying to pick up the pieces of their lives again. Even Kyle and Lana are not exempt. Now virtually outcasts by the townspeople, everyone sees the coming of Edge to Smallville as being entirely Kyle’s fault. Lana also holds responsibility by working as a recruiter for Edge and his Eradicator project. Neither of these people were actually had knowledge of Edge’s intentions–however in the eyes of the people that doesn’t matter. Kyle hasn’t been able to go to work because his own coworkers don’t trust him anymore, and Lana feels betrayed by the very people she’s known her entire life. Speaking as a person who’s from a small town, I can only imagine the difficulties this couple has.
Verdict
Superman & Lois 1×13 was a great episode that really shows us how Superman’s actions not only effect himself or his family, but even extends to his entire community. Clark Kent is all about his town of Smallville, and if he has difficulty protecting even them–then what about the world? Clark does address his mind control by Morgan Edge and instead of giving General Lane the permission to destroy the kryptonite armory, he opts to give it to John Irons instead. This completely shocked me the most in the entire episode. And hopefully this means we won’t see the end of John Henry.
