Over the years, there have been several different incarnations of Batman on the big and small screens, starting with the 1943 Batman serial starring Lewis Wilson and continuing in 2016 with the tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman starring Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader. 
However, one character has yet to be properly portrayed, and that character is Nightwing. Nightwing is Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne’s ward and Batman’s very first sidekick, formerly known as Robin, The Boy Wonder. The closest we ever got to seeing Nightwing was in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin with Chris O’Donnell’s Robin. 
But the time has finally come. The new webseries, Nightwing: Prodigal, written by Brady Roberts (who also plays Nightwing/Dick Grayson) and JD Buzz and directed by Kyle James-Patrick, showcases the man formerly known as Robin in a world where his mentor, Batman, is missing and he must return to Gotham in order to keep it safe. Nightwing is joined by his ex-girlfriend, Oracle, who runs the tech side of things. Together they must take down any and all criminals who seek to do their city harm. 
The first episode of this new series was extremely well done. From the superb cinematography, to the wonderful lighting, costumes, and music, this series is definitely worth checking out. There were a couple of points where the acting could’ve used a little work, but overall the actors performed their parts very well, my favorite being Poison Ivy, played by the beautiful Kylee Bush, who had a definite Uma Thurman vibe going on, and Florence Reiher as the snarky Oracle. 
There was also a plethora of Batman and DC references packed into this episode, from John Blake and Powers Technology, to Metropolis and Blüdhaven, to Dr. Langstrom (aka Man-Bat), and even his New 52 suit with the red symbol (referred to as the ‘Mark 52″). 
We also got a chance to see several DC/Batman characters including Nightwing (obviously), Oracle, Alfred, Anarky, Poison Ivy, Vickie Vale, and who I’m assuming is Solomon Grundy, with many more to come, if the trailer tells us anything. Overall, this is an enjoyable, yet far too short, first episode for this new series. It did leave me wanting more, but that’s a good thing, because I will definitely be checking out future episodes.
