Just in time for New York Comic Con, there will be a set of new limited edition postage stamps of the Dark Knight. The stamp sheet with includes 20 “Forever” stamps with eight designs depicting four historical eras of Batman. The designs range from the Golden Age interpretation of the character to the modern version from Jim Lee.
In an interview with USA Today, DC Entertainment co-publisher and artist Jim Lee spoke about the new milestone for the Caped Crusader. “Batman is the most popular Superhero of all time, and it is an honor to have the U.S. Postal Service feature the Caped Crusader on this new set of stamps in celebration of his 75th anniversary.” He continues, “Batman has inspired and influenced fans around the world for generations and will continue to do so for the next 75 years and beyond.”
Batman joins fellow DC Comics characters and Justice League members like Superman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman, who have all had their own special edition stamps.
Susan McGowan, the Postal Service’s Director of Stamp Services and corporate licensing had this to say:
“He is the quintessential American superhero. What a great place to celebrate him — on a stamp. We are always looking for ideas and subjects that are important to America. We all quickly thought, ‘Wow! This will be thrilling.’”
There will be a first day-of-issue ceremony for the limited edition Batman stamps at the New York Comic Con kick off event October 9th.
