The show Constantine on NBC was only able to go no further than season one, partly due to it being on a big-time network. When it cancelled, The CW, who already has three DC TV series, did not even pick up the series.
The fans, the show’s producers, and even Stephen Amell from Arrow tried to save the show with an online campaign but the efforts did not faze NBC. This is probably from the ratings not do as well as NBC would have hoped, even though the DVR numbers were almost doubled.
The executive producer, David S. Goyer from Constantine states, “I loved Constantine… In retrospect, I don’t think it should have been on NBC. I think it was the wrong channel and I’m sure they probably agree with that as well.” He also says the show will probably still be on if it wasn’t on NBC and rather basic cable.
The television show might have come to an end, but the character, Constantine has not. Matt Ryan who plays Constantine sparked a flame in the producers of Arrow’s heart and is bringing him on the show. Matt will play Constantine and be connected to the resurrection of Caity Lot’s character.
“I adore Matt [Ryan] and I think he is the definitive depiction of the character, and I think it is super cool that [‘Arrow’ executive producers] Greg [Berlanti] and Andrew [Kreisberg] brought him into that show.”Â
You can see Matt Ryan as Constantine on November 4th on The CW’s Arrow.
How do you feel about the show Constantine being cancelled, and if it would succeed if it was on a different network other than NBC?
