Summary
The Corvidae kidnap people that are close to Diana and Conan in an attempt to force them to fight.
Positives
The cover by Aaron Lopresti is good. It’s a cool image and well drawn. I like the red star on the side of Wonder Woman’s skirt; that’s not a detail I see very often but it looks great.
The interior art features pencils by Lopresti, inks by Matt Ryan and colors by Wendy Broome and Tony Aviña. The book looks great. The characters are expressive and well defined; there’s a lot of emotion in the faces.
I like the twist with the flashbacks. I was just taking them as the straight forward truth of the situation, so it was fun to be surprised by this reveal.
Apparently there is a blind Amazon who is also an archer. Her name is Philomela and I want a mini-series about her because that’s amazing.
Negatives
In the previous issues, I actually liked Gail Simone’s narration. However, it felt a little tedious here. I understood what was going on from the art before I even read the narration. It’s still worded nicely but I think it was a little unnecessary in certain places.
Verdict
This is a solid issue. The Corvidae effectively raise the stakes, allowing the story to go in a completely different direction than what I expected. The art is great and there is cool action. The story ends in an interesting place and I’m excited to see how Simone wraps the story up.
