Created in 1971 by comic book artist/legend Jack Kirby, Mister Miracle was created as a member of Kirby’s Fourth World race “The New God’s” and to be the son of the leader of New Genesis, Izaya also known as, Highfather. Scott Free, a name adopted by Mister Miracle is known to be very athletic and to be a master escape artist. The character was inspired by fellow comic book artist/legend Jim Steranko who had an early career as an illusionist.

As mentioned above, Mister Miracle is the son of the ruler of New Genesis, Izaya aka Highfather and his wife name Avia. As a part of a diplomatic move to stop a destructive war against the planet Apokolips, Highfather agreed to exchange the unnamed child of the time with Darkseid’s second born son, Orion. Upon this agreement neither side would attack each other. Orion would grow up living a life as a member of the New Gods of New Genesis, while Darkseid constantly tried to corrupt the nameless boy at Granny Goodness’ orphanage of terror. The unnamed child would never give up, he resisted her attempts to break and corrupt him. As he got older he matured and rebelled against the totalitarian ideology of Apokolips. Eventually, the young man would soon become a part of a small group of pupils who were tutored in secret by a rebel of New Genesian, Himon. With Himon’s mentorship Miracle learned how to use the Mother Box, a device that is used for transportation and energy manipulation. Through these meetings with the rebellion, Miracle met his future wife and fellow pupil, Big Barda. Fun fact: The character’s relationship with Big Barda was inspired and based on Kirby’s relationship with his own wife.

With now learning how to escape Granny’s orphanage, he realized he could now escape from anything. By this time the character adopted the name Scott Free. Since Miracle or Scott escaped the orphanage, the pact between Darkseid and Highfather was now broken. Thus leading to a revival of war between Apokolips and New Genesis. Free escaped to Earth where he then met circus escape artist, Thaddeus Brown, who had the stage name, wait for it, Mister Miracle! After Brown was murdered, Scott solved the murder and took up the name Mister Miracle. Barda who followed Scott to Earth, helped Scott take on Darkseid, who was still trying to recapture the two. Eventually, Scott went back to Apokolips and won his freedom by trail by combat.

Throughout his history, Miracle was a member of the Justice League of America, battled against his rival Manga Khan and was reborn in Final Crisis.

In his most recent incarnation in the New 52, Miracle and Barda escape and go on the run from Steppenwolf and the World Army all within the “Earth 2” comic series. Miracle and Barda in the series are revealed to find the mysterious new Batman, but are interrupted and attacked by Fury, the daughter of the later Wonder Woman of Earth 2.
