Earlier this year, we saw the beginning of DCUA’s New 52 universe with Justice League: War.  And for those of you that watched all the way through the end of the credits saw that a future Aquaman film was teased.  Well, that film is finally coming to pass.

Warner Bros. has officially announced their next DC Universe animated original movie, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.  This news comes from the back cover of the Batman: Assault on Arkham Blu-ray.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will most likely be based on the “Throne of Atlantis” story arc which took place during Aquaman #14-16 and Justice League #15-17.  The summary for that story arc is as follows:

A Navy warship incites the wrath of the Atlanteans after its missiles malfunction during a test and end up attacking Atlantis. Ocean Master, the new king of Atlantis, declare war on the surface world. While they are in a cafĂ© in Metropolis, Superman and Wonder Woman are forced to suit up and stop an aircraft carrier from flooding into the city and killing thousands of people. In the battle that follows the Justice League is captured, save Cyborg. He realizes they need help and calls in help from Green Arrow, Hawkman, Zatanna, Firestorm and more. The Heroes stop Ocean Master and figure out that Aquaman’s assistant Vulko was behind the bombing so Arthur would take the throne once again.

As with all of DC’s animated films, there will most likely be a slight departure from the original source.  How similar or how different this film is from the comics is still yet to be known.

Batman: Assault On Arkham gets released on August 12th, which will have the first look at Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.  Warner Bros. is slated to release info on their upcoming animated films in next few months, starting at San Diego Comic Con 2014 this summer.
