First R-Rated DC Original Animated Movie to bow at THE Comic-Con!
It took some stumbles getting to the starting gate, but soon fans everywhere will get to see Batman: The Killing Joke. And if you are one of the lucky fee in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con this year, you’ll be able to see it before anyone else!
The highly-anticipated adaptation of 1988 Alan Moore graphic novel will premiere at SCDD on Friday, July 22. A panel featuring cast and crew members is also scheduled. And this film spares no expense with it’s talented cast: Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League) and Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series, Star Wars franchise) as the quintessential voices of Batman and The Joker, Tara Strong (The New Batman Superman Adventures, Teen Titans) as Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise (Twin Peaks, RoboCop) as Commissioner Gordon.
Because of the graphic nature of the story, Batman: The Killing Joke has a had a tough road making it to the screen. What was to be a one-shot story carried over into the DC Comics Universe, forcing Barbara Gordon to end her crimefighting career as Batgirl, and start a new career as Oracle.
And with the 2012 Aurora shooting at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, along with other gun violence across the US, the feature kept getting pushed back. Finally, the film is ready to be viewed by the public. And because of its subject matter, this will be DC’s first animated movie to earn an R-Rating.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, Batman: The Killing Joke arrives August 2, 2016 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-Ray™ Deluxe Edition, Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack and DVD.
