Warner Bros.’ 2017 film press has confirmed the appearance of two additional characters in the upcoming DC Comics based film, Justice League.
The press kit states that Jesse Eisenberg will appear in Justice League as Lex Luthor, reprising his role from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. In addition, the kit also states that Connie Nelson will appear as Queen Hippolyta, renewing her role after the upcoming Wonder Woman film.
Jesse Eisenberg had previously appeared as Lex Luthor in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and was last seen being imprisoned in Belle Reve maximum security prison, where he began shouting as if he were foreboding something. Of course, he was talking about the coming of the villainous ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid, who is said to be the villain in the sequel to Justice League.
With Lex Luthor’s warnings at the end of the film and Batman’s nightmare sequence, where a large Omega was carved into the earth, it is very possible that his place in Justice League is to relay information on Steppenwolf, who is the main antagonist of the film, and the incoming invasion by Darkseid and/or assist the League in their inevitable battles against these villains.
We have not seen Queen Hippolyta in the DC Cinematic Universe yet, we will see her perform as Wonder Woman’s Mother in 2017’s Wonder Woman. Her role in the Justice League film may be similar to Eisenberg’s. As an Amazon, Hippolyta and the other inhabitants of Themiscrya worship the Gods of Greek Mythology. As a “New God”, Darkseid and his cohorts fall into the same category as Zeus, Hera, Ares and other deities, it is very possible that she will play a vital role in the League’s battles against these evil Gods.
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League releases in theaters November 17, 2017.
