Summary

While Jesse works to pay back his debt to Gran’ma, Tulip and Cassidy risk their safety as they make their own plans to get out of Angelville. Preachers third season keeps rolling on with a great setup episode that shows no signs of slowing down the season.

Positives

Persistence is key to any great character, and boy is Tulip persistent! After a big mistake last week, the hard edge Tulip sets her sights on redemption. Her interactions with God where not only funny, but gave the character some incredibly large goals. Her continued such for the Grail is different from any other arc in the series she has had, and her subsequent death and resurrection have changed her to the core, which is great.

While Cassidy and Jesse take a little bit of a back seat, the screen time they did share was touching. Not exactly best friends right now, the duo has a lot to work through, but Jesse admitting how much he truly cares for his vampire buddy was a long time coming. Even if Cassidy didn’t believe it, the audience knew the truth.

The two would have their relationship again tested as Jesse now seems to control something that has been hinted at since season 1, The Tombs. As the new ringmaster to the debtors of Gran’ma’s deals, Jesse is definitely going to dive into some very dark places in Preacher episodes to come.

Negatives

The episode felt like more setup than anything else, even with its shining moment. Gods big reveal, while great, still has so much mystery surrounding it and leaves viewers wanting more. And while Marie L’Angelle didn’t have as much screen time as she should have, her presence was felt but she definitely needs more screen time in upcoming episodes.

Verdict

This episode is a great binge episode when the next one is readily available. When we have to wait another week to see all this set up pay off, it can get a little frustrating, but does effectively keep us tuning in! I cant wait to see what Preacher does next!
