WB may have found their Cassandra Cain for their upcoming DC Comics film, Birds of Prey. Ella Jay Basco, who has previously appeared on television shows such as Veep and Grey’s Anatomy, is in negotiations for the role.
If she is cast, she will join Margot Robbie, who is returning as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smolett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask.
For any that don’t know, Cassandra Cain is the daughter of assassins Lady Shiva and David Cain. From birth she was raised to be an assassin. She never speaks and was never taught how to read or write. Instead they taught her to understand body language in order to become a much more efficient killing machine. Eventually Bruce Wayne finds her and befriends her which leads to her eventually becoming the new Batgirl. With the return of Barbara Gordon as Batgirl, Cassandra Cain has taken the name of Orphan.
It has yet to be revealed if Cain will become Batgirl or Orphan in the upcoming film.
Birds of Prey is directed by Cathy Yan, produced by Margot Robbie and scheduled for release on February 7, 2020.
