The long-rumored news is finally official: a new Legion of Super-Heroes title is on the way, written by Brian Michael Bendis. The 31st century teenagers haven’t been an official part of post-Rebirth DC continuity (outside of some hints in Doomsday Clock), but DC has announced Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium, a two issue series that will be the lead-in to an ongoing run illustrated by Ryan Sook.
While DC’s description of the new series doesn’t reveal which members of the massive team roster will be featured, we do now have a chance to see some of Sook’s character designs ahead of the book’s launch.
Legion members getting new costumes is standard practice on the title, going back to Dave Cockrum’s work in the 1970s. While Sook has illustrated various DC stories over the years, including part of Bendis’s Man of Steel, his last consistent series work was on Seven Soldiers: Zatanna in 2005.Â
The Legion was mentioned by Dan DiDio back in early 2018, when he noted that the team’s return was “tied to an event story that’s taking place right now” (most likely Doomsday Clock). Outside of comics, the team has been featured on the CW’s Supergirl.
Between this and the JSA announcement, it looks like DC has big plans for all its big teams in 2019 and beyond.
