Stargirl, a show coming to the CW Network, premiered a short teaser trailer on its YouTube channel. The trailer features a first look at Stargirl, Starman, and what we can expect from the show next year.

Not Starman…Stargirl

Stargirl will debut sometime in the spring of 2020 on the CW as it joins the Arrowverse family of shows. As to whether the show will take place within the same universe as those shows remains to be seen.

But before we go any further, let’s take a look at the trailer:

In the trailer, we get our first look at Brec Bassinger in the titular role as Stargirl. Bassinger will be playing Courtney Whitmore, a character created by Geoff Johns in 1999, who ends up taking over the mantle of wielder of the Cosmic Staff. The show will also feature actors Luke Wilson(The Royal Tenenbaums) and Amy Smart(Justified) as Whitmore’s parents.

Another notable takeaway from the trailer is our first look at Joel McHale (from Community fame) in the role of the original Starman. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though he last very long as he passes the Cosmic Staff to his sidekick (Wilson). During a house move, Whitmore stumbles upon the staff that Wilson is holding which then leads to him explaining it.

To CW or DCU…that is the question

If you’re wondering why Stargirl is being featured as a CW show and not as a DC Universe original, don’t worry. The show will appear on both the CW network and the DC Universe streaming service.

The show does have the feel of CW show but with a little bit more pop to it. This maybe in part to the show appearing on both networks.

With that said, well-known producer Greg Berlanti is attached alongside Stargirl creator Geoff Johns. For Johns, this show will be a passion project as Stargirl is a tribute to Johns late sister Courtney.
