Summary
Everything comes to a breaking point in Batwoman 1×15 –Â “Off With Her Head”. In this episode Kate and Jacob Kane team up to find out the location of Alice, who’s been held captive by Cartwright. What makes matters worse, is that Alice is being fed a dangerous dose of Scarecrow’s fear toxin. Seeing her worst fears come to light, Alice is barely hanging on to the minor sanity she has left.
Positives
I’m happy to see Jacob Kane and Kate Kane reunite in this episode. Due to her time as Batwoman and Jacob’s disdain for the hero, the two haven’t been on the best terms lately. However Alice’s capture last episode changes things, and Cartwright’s capture forces Kate to go to Jacob for help. I actually enjoyed Jacob and Kate being on the same page for an episode instead of being at each other’s throats and I hope to see it more often.
Negatives
My only issue with this episode is that it seemed to revolve around Alice once again. Although we get more backstory in this episode, at this point I’m not sure if she’s even redeemable as a character now. For a few episodes Alice seems to come off as a valid threat to Gotham. Then in others, we’re supposed to feel sad for her situation. This episode was the latter, and we find out more about Alice’s mistreatment at the hands of his own mother as well. This very mistreatment we find out was the main source of Alice’s fear in Scarecrow’s toxin. Thanks to Kate and Jacob, Alice is found and saved.
Verdict
“Off With Her Head” was a good episode that gave us more backstory on Alice, but I really feel like the backstory wasn’t necessary to tell. If anything it gave us a chance to see Kate and Jacob work together in unison, and that I really enjoyed. Hopefully in the future this father and daughter can build a relationship saving Gotham as heroes together as well.
