The powerful tome known as the Book of Possibilities has fallen into the hands of Tim’s schoolmate Ellie…but what will she do with it? Only one thing is certain: she doesn’t seem eager to hand it over to Tim…

Books of Magic #22

Positives

Books of Magic #22 takes place in the Dreaming and Destiny is there. We all know he is everyone’s least favorite member of the Endless. Even Destruction, who is normally off hiding, is more interesting. Destiny isn’t engaging because, he stands there silently and knows everything. Well, not only does he talk, more on that below, but he has something special to say. The Book of Possibilities is really something special. I love it. David Barnett’s take on this universe has been delightful and this nod to writing your own destiny and choosing, in this case quite literally, your own adventure, is so cool. I like that he puts it all on the kids to decide. There is quite a message there about making your own way. I enjoy the fact that the kids have to stop and think about it though. Of course, dumb Tyler wants to make a snap judgement, but worldly wise Ellie has more to say on the subject. It is a really nice set up for that final page. Bravo Mr. Barnett.

As always, the art team is spectacular. I simply think the dream team (pun intended) of Fowler and Taillefer are unstoppable. Well, OK, next month is the final issue, so I guess they are, but they shouldn’t be. I always read this book twice in a row simply to marvel at their art. You should too.

Negatives

If you’ve been reading my reviews, you know this section will be short. I have very little to complain about. I am not a huge fan of Destiny talking. that is off brand for him. Still, Books of Magic #22 has almost no negatives. I just like it so much.

Verdict

Books of Magic #22 is the best thing I will read this week. That final page, the big reveal of who the Cold Flame/three fates are is mind blowing. I am so sad I only have one more issue of this to read before it ends. I expect Mr. Barnett has something big planned. This series must go out with a bang. Until then, I will go back and read the whole series over to prepare. I have no doubt something from an early issue will be back in play and I want to be prepared.
