In Batman folklore there are many iconic characters, but the city of Gotham takes on a persona of its own.  The dark and gloomy home of Bruce Wayne and the Bat family has played a massive role through the years.   Many would say it has played as much a part in the books as iconic characters like  Joker, Catwoman Etc.  The City would seem inseparable from the Dark Knight himself.   DC have decided to take their newest Batman away from his home.  As a result Jace Fox will be replacing  Amusement Mile with Coney Island. This new Batman is heading to New York City.

Jace’s New Home

Jace Fox has taken over the mantle of Batman in the current I am Batman series which came spiraling out the Future State event.  Following his involvement in the battle against Scarecrow in DC’s Fear State event Lucius Fox’s son will be packing his bags and heading to the Big Apple.  Jace (real name Timothy) won’t be relocating alone as the whole Fox family will be making the move alongside him.

The relocation itself will take place inside the pages of in I Am Batman #6.  However for the reasoning behind the move fans are encouraged to check out #5. Written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years A Slave, The Other History of the DC Universe, The American Way) and in a interview with Comicbook.com he gave his thoughts on the character’s change of home:

I’m incredibly excited about charting this new direction for Jace and the Fox family,” Ridley said. “This new setting is a great opportunity to do some really creative world building and give Jace his own allies, adversaries, and challenges that will continue to shape and define him as his own character under the cape and cowl.

This will give Jace the opportunity to grow away from Gotham and the eyes of Batman.  It will help him create his own identity and not have him thrown in with a larger group of characters.  With the Bat Family being so large it would be easy for newer characters to become enveloped and overshadowed.  Furthermore this new location will give Jace a chance to carve his own story away from the shadow of the bat.
