Writer and creator Neil Gaiman talks about Sandman and why the cult figure is not part of DC Comics’ movie schedule.

Recently, Nolan’s Batman alumni Joseph Gordon-Levitt was announced as a producer for the upcoming Sandman movie. However, during the big reveal of DC’s schedule of upcoming films during the next five years, Sandman was surprisingly absent. We have Neil Gaiman explaining the why of this surprise.

A fan asked about this, and he answered on his blog.

“It’s not a DC Comics film. It’s a Vertigo film. That’s a different slate of films, and a different announcement.” Said the writer.

While revealing that the Sandman film is indeed not part of the grand DC Cinematic Universe, Gaiman did refer to Sandman as a film, implying it is a possibility, while also referring to Sandman as part of a different slate of films, perhaps referring to the fact that DC may very well launch DC movies outside the planned cinematic universe, the upcoming Shazam film being an example of that. Thus, another Constantine film is being rumored, making the theory about a second movie slate a strong possibility.
