Summary

Deathstroke has put together his team and now it’s time to save the world! Consisting of Rose, Kid Flash, former Teen Titan Power Girl, his ex-wife Adeline, his son Joey and Wintergreen, this team — known as Defiance — is a force to be reckoned with! However will this new team fall to infighting already, even before their first mission?

Positives

I’ve been wanting to see what Deathstroke being a hero would look like ever since I started reviewing this series and I have to admit I wasn’t disappointed. Priest really shows us how dedicated Deathstroke is to starting over–even if his own team doesn’t believe him. Everyone that’s joined so far has their own mission or hidden agenda. This isn’t the Justice League where everyone are friends. On this team they have issues already–and they’ve just gotten started!

Negatives

Priest really gave me no negatives about this issue. As I stated earlier, everyone has a agenda to joining this team and Priest does a great job at explaining everyone’s purpose. It seems clear that someone will betray everyone else, it’s just a question of who and when. It’s Slade however who I find myself cheering for most. I really want him to become a hero, especially since everyone is writing him off as a villain still. I’d love for Deathstroke to prove them wrong! I really believe Slade has changed his code however, as he takes down a drug kingpin in the book–but he doesn’t accept the money and he doesn’t kill the kingpin! That’s what I call progress!

Verdict

If you’ve been following the Deathstroke series by Priest then you’ll definitely enjoy what Priest has written here. This team might have good intentions, but it’s a ticking bomb that’s only going to explode with time. My only hope is that Slade can escape the fallout!
