Batman has conquered comics, animation and film over his 80 years of existence. Now, Bob Kane and Bill Fingers’ creation will leave his mark in Hollywood in a different way.
With a star.
Holy Outdoor Floorwork, Batman!
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s Walk of Fame Committee have announced their 2020 list of stars. Besides big names such as Mahershala Ali, Julia Roberts, and Chris Hemsworth, there is one entry of interest for comic fans the world over:
This is not the first time The Dark Knight has been honored by the entertainment industry in such a way. When famous Batman actor Adam West passed away, the Bat Signal shone for an entire night for a planned vigil. The timing of the character himself comes months after the 80th anniversary of his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1940. Batman’s first adventure was entitled “The Case of The Chemical Syndicate. The short story also introduced not only Bruce Wayne and his masked alter-ego but lifelong friend Commissioner James Gordon. His famous partner, Robin, would not appear until much later.
In Good Company
The Dark Knight isn’t the first fictional character to grace the famous sidewalk. He will be the eighteenth in a long list of legendary creations to join the Walk of Fame. Other alums include Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh, Woody Woodpecker, Shrek, The Muppets, Snoopy, and more. He also shares the walk of fame with the star of his co-creator, Bob Kane.
Surprisingly, his counterpart, Superman, has yet to make the list, and his 80th anniversary was last year. That is indeed a mystery worthy of The World’s Greatest Detective.
While it’s the Committee’s tradition to hold a ceremony for every new inductee, one has yet to be planned for the Caped Crusader. However, it is not unheard of. In fact, Katy Perry was present and spoke on behalf of Minnie Mouse when she received her star.
Stay tuned for that special date. Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel!
